ARD in profile

Industrial biotechnologies, plant fractioning and chemistry… ARD is internationally renowned and has built an indisputable expertise in the process of adding food and non-food value to agricultural resources. Recognised since 2009 by the Ministry of Industry as an “open innovation platform”, ARD is now one of the leaders in the development of bio-economy, operating from one of the most important world bio refineries.

Its objective is to pursue its R&D activities in support of sustainable agriculture and innovative projects.

  • Located on the Pomacle-Bazancourt site, ARD is both a projects incubator and innovation booster. From laboratory to Biodemo industrial scaling-up production facilities for the development of biological processes, ARD covers all stages of the TRL (Technology Readiness Level) that assesses the technological maturity of a project. With all the required facilities under one roof, ARD has all the means to boost industrialisation whilst managing costs.
  • ARD also attracts start-ups and French and international companies (Amyris, Global Bioenergies, Fermentalg…) and develops its own start-ups such as Soliance that now pursues its development within the Givaudan group.
  • ARD is an active member of “Industry and Agro-Resources”, a global competitiveness centre that gathers stakeholders in research, education and industry in the region around one common objective: bioeconomy.
  • ARD is working for the development of sustainable agriculture by leading several research projects on bio inputs for regional, national and international implementations that are financed by the regional authority and the EU (Feder) such as:

Cerbio for the research/production of alternative bio inputs against crop diseases,
Bioferti for the development of solutions for the bio-fertilisation of the soil through microorganisms already naturally in existence.
Fonginat: Development of products resulting from green chemistry and improving the environmental profile of phytosanitary inputs.

ARD au cœur de l’Institut Européen de la Bioraffinerie, un complexe unique en Europe et un modèle de circuit court de l’innovation

ARD is at the heart of the Bio Refinery European Institute, a unique complex in Europe and a model for fast track innovation

This site gathers stakeholders in research, education and industry working together in synergy. It has now become one of the world’s leading bio refineries. 3M tonnes of biomass are transformed every year for the production of sugar, glucose, starch, food-grade and pharmaceutical-grade spirit, fuel ethanol, cosmetics active ingredients...

Biotechnologies : une activité commerciale soutenue et un marché porteur

Biotechnologies: Sustained commercial growth and a buoyant market

Boosted by the development of innovative products by major groups and start-ups, ARD – whose expertise lies in helping its customers scale up their production and minimise time to market – continues to gain market share in a sector that is growing by 10% per year. By obtaining ISO 22000 certification, ARD is now particularly well positioned to contribute to the strong development of biotechnologies in food ingredients.

Biomasse et biotechs : un mariage qui fait sens

Biomass and biotech: a marriage of convenience

With the acquisition of Procéthol 2G's pilot plant in Pomacle, ARD has new production capacity for scaling up biotechnology processes and is developing its cellulosic biomass processing business. This investment also gives new life to the site's pre-processing plant, as well as supporting the commercialisation of Futurol (2G bioethanol technology).
